Jumping Spider Dorsals
The jumping spider’s dorsal appearance generally serves as some sort of mimicry (including aposematism), or camouflage, or both. Salticidae are known to mimic many kinds of dangerous insects, including ants, beetles, caterpillars, and wasps, with their body shapes and colorations. Many other jumping spiders are camouflage experts, blending in with tree trunks, leaf venation, or rocky ground, to conceal themselves from predators.
